How to permantely remove weeds from lawn

I’ve recently moved to Texas, and although not everything in Texas is necessarily ‘bigger’ like everyone says, I will admit that the weeds are definitely bigger. Some of the weeds in my lawn shot up to over 2 feet tall in a matter of a few weeks.

I have found that attempting to getting rid of weeds permanently with sprays is a waste of time and money. Sometimes the weed will wither and die, but it will grow back in a couple of weeks. If I have found a spray that is powerful enough to kill a weed, it also kills my grass.

You need to destroy the root in order to permanently remove the weed.

Question: What’s the best solution to destroy the root?

There are basically 2 ways to uproot a weed and prevent it from coming back:

1. The hard way: Good old fashioned hard work. You can buy gloves, get a spade, some knee pads, and spend an entire day pulling weeds and still only be half done pulling all of your weeds. Maybe this is all the exercise you get or the way you prefer to do it, and if that’s the case, remember to lift with your legs as to not strain your back :)
   
2. The easy way: Use an uprooting tool. I strongly suggest the Fiskars 7870 Uproot Lawn and Garden Weeder. You can get this at Lowe's for $25. I pulled around 400 weeds (don’t judge me, they all just sprang up so fast) in less than 2 hours. It’s easy to use, and it pulls the entire root (and the weed) from of your lawn.

Preventing weeds is basically impossible, in lieu of putting a bubble around your house and lawn and preventing nature from happening. You can use Scott’s Weed & Feed, which will make your lawn green, and may possibly help prevent some types of weeds from growing. As far as I can tell, there isn’t a laser defense mechanism inside the bag that zaps bees or pollen before they touch your lawn, so you will still inevitably have a few weeds.

 Answer: Throw it in the trashcan, and get it out of your lawn forever.
